Reiki for Children: A Parent’s Guide to Gentle Healing Under 12
Parents usually get in touch about a child when something has shifted and they cannot quite locate why. Sleep has become difficult. There are more tears than usual, or more anger. Something at school is clearly weighing on them but the answer to every question is "I don’t know."
Children feel enormously and often lack the language to describe it. That does not make the feeling smaller. It just makes it harder for it to move.
What a session supports
Children experience stress, anxiety, fears, low confidence, emotional overwhelm, friendship difficulties, school pressure and changes at home. A session gives all of that a calm, unhurried place to be, without a child having to perform an explanation first.
How it differs from an adult session
Considerably. Children are not small adults and the session is not a shortened version of one.
- It is shorter, and paced entirely around the child
- They do not need to lie still — sitting, fidgeting and chatting are all fine
- The language is age-appropriate throughout
- Nothing is required of them; if they would rather not do a part, we do not do it
- A parent or guardian stays present
What a session may include
- Reiki energy healing
- EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) tapping, in a child-friendly form
- Gentle energy balancing
- Positive affirmations
- Age-appropriate emotional support and regulation tools they can use at home
That last point matters most to a lot of parents. Children often leave with something small and practical — a way of noticing what they are feeling and settling themselves — that outlasts the session itself.
What parents tend to ask
"Will they find it strange?" Almost never. Children generally take this work more easily than adults do, largely because they have not yet built up a view about whether it should work.
"Do they need to talk about what is wrong?" No. Some do, some do not, and the session is worthwhile either way.
"Do I stay in the room?" Yes, always.
When to seek other support
This is a complementary practice, and it does not replace paediatric, psychological or educational support. If you have real concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please speak to your GP or your school. This work sits alongside that, not instead of it.
Energy healing is a complementary practice and does not replace medical or psychological care. If you are experiencing significant physical or mental health concerns, please speak with your GP or a qualified healthcare professional.
